More than overcomers

Remember that time when Jesus said that He was praying that we would not be taken out of the world but that we would be kept safe while in it? Yeah, He did that!

John 17:15 NKJV (emphasis added)
I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep (and protect) them from the evil one.

Something we should know about Jesus is that He is not going to simply take us out of “hard things” because we do not like the said “hard thing”. Rather, Jesus desires that we awake to the truth that “greater is what and who He is in us” than the obstacle or difficulty we are facing. He is not in agreement with “skipping over” a tough situation or battle but rather He desires that we would face the enemy and overcome it. Some things must be faced head-on lest they continue to take advantage of us.

Again, Jesus is not going to pray that you and I be taken out from facing the enemy …but rest assured that He is praying that we not fail and that we would fight well, like a good soldier, and overwhelm the enemy, chase it down and take its head off!

I had a battle this spring that I desperately wanted to avoid and simply skip over. I will share the “short version” of it with you.

On March 26th I injured my back which resulted in a severe herniation of one of the lower lumbar discs. Of course, initially, I had no idea what I did to my back. I have had similar, although far less painful and severe, issues in the past …so I did what I have always done. But after 8 weeks of debilitating pain and muscle spasms and not getting better but worse, I begin to inquire of the Lord for what I needed to be doing in this situation.

One afternoon I was seeking the Lord about my situation, and He brought a name up of an old friend of mine who I had not seen or been in contact with for almost 20 years. I was able to get in contact with him that afternoon and found out he was a doctor who had specialized training in dealing with this type of back injury. God is good!

We discovered, unfortunately and yet thankfully, that I had gone through 8 weeks of treatment prior that was damaging my back due to a misdiagnosis of the injury.  My new doctor said that my injury was easily in the top 10% of the worst injuries he has worked with.

I want to report that in the three weeks I have been working with him I have recovered, at the time of this letter, about 99%! Praise the Lord!

I want to say that the Lord has been with this doctor, wisdom was working in him to be able to get the exact diagnosis. But also working in me was the healing anointing. I have had times in the past few weeks where the tangible heat of the healing anointing was moving on my back, and I advanced forward in my recovery supernaturally! Thank you, Lord!

So, to the point of this whole story and partner letter. Why wasn’t I instantly healed minutes after praying on March 26th? Why has this issue seemingly been “prolonged”?

We must remember whenever we face sickness or disease or any type of bodily injury or harm, that Jesus bore all that in His body on the cross. We have a covenant promise of healing.

In Christ, we are already healed. The Bible says that by Jesus’ stripes we ‘WERE’ healed. Over two thousand years ago our healing was purchased and made available to us in Christ through the shed blood which secured the covenant access to it.  Something I pray every day is: “If we were healed …then we are healed! I am healed right now, in Jesus’ name!” I had established that no matter what, I was going to secure my position in Him and my covenantal right to be healed.

But Jesus had a desire that through this situation, I would become acquainted with the enemy that had taken advantage of me for many years. Jesus did not want me to miss an opportunity to face the foe that had, unknowingly to me, become a part of my life and was stealing from me without my knowledge. Jesus already paid for my healing …He was not keeping it from memy ignorance of the open door to the enemy was hindering me from receiving my healing. Jesus wanted me to become fully aware of that enemy and do something about it! I have learned some significant lessons throughout the last several months.

I will not go into the exact details right now as to what I have had to recognize, face, and overcome …but rather I want to encourage you that sometimes Jesus would rather you come into the exact knowledge of what is the root causes of your limitations and opposition.

He would rather you discover that you are an OVERCOMER and to do that you will have to face some things and enforce what is yours through Christ.

Sometimes we can do things “for” people …but it might be at a great cost of valuable knowledge and personal growth that could inadvertently handicap them if they were to ever face a similar situation in the future.

Jesus did not “put” this debilitating back injury on meof course not! But He did help me to discover a thief in my temple … He helped me to face some hard things and discover some weaknesses that were causing me harm.

He did not simply take me out of the situation, but He coached me and challenged me and encouraged me to overcome and walk in a greater level of victory in my life.

I have been able to set a vision and say that “I will never be in this situation again!” The thief has been caught! …and my healing secured and initiated!

Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us.

But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; …
